Hair transplantation is a minor surgical procedure performed in our office facilities under local anesthesia. The technique involves the removal of a superficial layer of abundant hair  bearing skin from the donor area that is resistant to hair loss.

The donor area is then cosmetically closed using a Trichophytic suture technique which is  virtually “a scarless” closure. The suture line can be practically invisible, even immediately after the procedure. This hair bearing donor area is delicately separated into one, two and three hair follicular unit grafts using a stereomicroscope, to help preserve every follicular unit.

The surgeon will design and create the recipient sites where the grafts will be placed. Natural hairlines will be designed, and the angle of the hair and direction of the hair placement will be determined to mimic Mother Nature. Tiny closely-placed needle incisions (Dense Packing) are made in an undulating and random fashion.

The permanent hair bearing follicular unit grafts are then placed into the sites under magnification for absolute precision. Single hair grafts are used to construct the hairline and as the surgeon works back, he will place gradually larger grafts containing 2 and 3 hair groups.  This Dense Packing of grafts allows a closer placement of hair for a very natural appearance.

Increased hair density can be accomplished through subsequent treatments.  Most patients require only one or two procedures depending on their individual characteristics and goals of restoration.

The hairs in the human scalp grow in tiny bundles called Follicular Units consisting mostly of 1to 3 hairs and in hair transplantation should be kept intact, to insure a full natural look.  In Follicular Unit Extraction  the unit grafts are  individually extracted  with a minute punch, as a single unit. This is done only in selected cases.

The follicular unit is seen on the surface of the scalp as a tiny group of hairs that appear to be growing
together.

Thru this FUT technique, we dissect naturally occurring groups of 1to3 hair follicle grafts and transplant these micro-grafts into very small, Densely Packed recipient sites, placed in the balding area.  These Follicular Units are impossible to create without using the  Stereomicroscope.

Non-Surgical Treatment:
Billions of dollars are spent annually on hair loss products that claim hair growth. Most don't.  Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia, (Finasteride)  are the only FDA approved drugs use in prevention and treatment of hair loss and in many cases they can be an intricate part of the overall plan.
